(Sorry for those of you who tried to visit here yesterday — we had a slight glitch with executing php files on the server. Should be all sorted now, fingers crossed.)
Let’s say you work with the web. You might be a designer, or a developer, or have a fancy title like “interaction manager” or “web officer” or something like that. It doesn’t matter what you’re called, because you’re still spending all your days looking at a computer screen and those RSS feeds are for research purposes — honest!
And let’s say you work in Nottingham. Or live in Nottingham. Or near Nottingham. Maybe Leicester. Maybe Derby. Maybe even further, but happy to go to Nottingham. Everyone should come to Nottingham, it’s nice. No, really.
So you’re a web person, and you’re happy to come to Nottingham, and you’re thinking “Gosh, I wish there was a group or an event or something that would have other web people coming together and talking about awesome things.”
You know what? That’s what we were thinking too.
So on November 29th, a Thursday, at the Malt Cross on St. James Street, we’re having the first East Midlands Web Design/Dev/Geekery Meet Up.
(The name is temporary. It’s being brought up at the first meet.)
It starts at 8, officially, but I’ll be there from around 6.30 to grab a good seat on the ground floor. Look for the girl knitting.
So come hang out with fellow web people. Maybe someone’ll bring an iPhone. Maybe someone’ll want to break free of tables and want to learn how. Either way, it’ll be fun.

Bah. I want to come but I can’t, what with it being in the middle of the week and an evening event (the last train home from Nottingham is at 21:30). Good luck with the endeavour.

Would I be permitted to come? I work in Sales and Marketing but have a massive interest in geekery on the side (I try to indulge it at work by pushing my employer towards Internet/email marketing and SEO). And I live in Nottingham. And according to a training course I went on last week, apparently nobody builds websites with Frames anymore. I need to get back in touch!

I won’t be attending I’m afraid. Im just that little bit too far away : ( but I reckon it’ll be a good do.
@Alice – If you have an interest then I think it’ll be quite an amazing eye opener for you to find out what’s possible these days with a bit of (X)HTML and CSS. I built my last framed site back in 2004. It was then, while in hospital, my boss paid me a visit giving me a copy of ‘Eric Meyer on CSS’ and I’ve never looked back : )
